Student architectural and engineering studies, 1831-1863.

This notebook comprises one volume of student exercises by P. A. Laurent who attended the École polytechnique (1831, 2nd division). These include geometrical, architectural and cartographic studies, some finely rendered, especially studies of mass and volume. The second and third volumes of the notebook contain the student work of P. A. Laurent's son, Georges Laurent, dating from 1861-1863. These two volumes feature engineering studies and architectural drawings by Georges Laurent, including renderings of the classical orders and the Ionic entablature of the Theater of Marcellus in Rome, a reconstruction drawing of the Roman city gates at Nimes, elevation and plans for a Palladian library, elevation and plans for a "maison de chef cantonnier", elevation and plans for a train station and cartographic drawings.
